Daily Ag Direction 10/8/25
Good morning!
As the government shutdown moves into its 8th day, the lack of reports and analytics has caused the markets to be influenced by basis and spreads alone. Wheat trade was mixed as it could not hold on to its gains from Tuesday. Overnight trade got off to a weak start but eventually found support from light trade volume. Wheat planting continues across much of the Southern Plains with many pushing to beat the rains forecasted for later in the week. Corn continues to grind in this holding pattern of flat price trade via spread support. The October WASDE would have come out tomorrow, but due to the shutdown, that will not be the case. This lack of information proves problematic for any moves in futures values as any main market moves are influenced by these reports. On a brighter note, the corn export demand remains strong despite the size of the crop. Looking at beans, it’s the same story as the rest of the commodities. Lack of government information is highly problematic for trade as this info guides estimates and analytics for the rest of the industry. Exports remain murky as well as domestic usage. The biggest question, other than the big China one, is how will this effect the biofuel industry? With the shutdown, questions surrounding the EPA’s handling of the biofuel sector will now be delayed for an even longer period of time. This casts further uncertainty on this industry.
Looking ahead at the weather, we will see light rain as we move into the weekend with most of the volume falling over the eastern half of Kansas. A small swath of central Oklahoma could also see some light rain as well. As the week progresses, the false fall that we have experienced will dissipate with temperatures increasing to the high-80’s to low-90’s by Monday.
